On February 24, 2025, the European Union issued Regulation (EU) 2025/351 (hereinafter referred to as the "Regulation"), which revised three regulations on food contact materials (FCM) and articles:
1. Regulation (EC) 2023/2006 on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP, merged version of April 2008)
2. Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 on plastics in contact with food (merged version until January 2025)
3. Regulation (EU) 2022/1616 on recycled plastics in contact with food (merged version until September 2022)
The regulation will come into effect on March 16, 2025, which is the 20th day after its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. Food contact plastics that comply with Regulation (EU) No. 10/2011 and any relevant EU regulations before the regulation comes into effect, and are first placed on the market before September 16, 2026, may continue to be sold on the market until inventory is depleted.
The revision of these regulations will have a significant impact on the production and export of food contact materials. SGS recommends that relevant companies promptly understand and respond accordingly.
